Health and Safety Specialist
Based in Otopeni
Purpose of the position:
The Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety and health programs within the organization. This role involves identifying workplace hazards, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and fostering a safe work environment. The specialist will collaborate with various departments to promote a culture of safety and health. The role will report to the Health and Safety Manager based in Otopeni.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for each component of the work system (performer, task, equipment, and environment).
- Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and update the organization’s prevention and protection plan.
- Ensure all safety measures are in line with current regulations and company policies.
- Create and disseminate safety instructions tailored to the specific activities and conditions of the workplace.
- Ensure instructions are approved by the employer before distribution.
- Propose safety and health duties for workers based on their roles.
- Ensure these responsibilities are included in job descriptions and approved by the employer.
- Verify that all employees adhere to the prevention and protection plan, safety instructions, and their specific duties.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance.
- Prepare technical documentation for safety and health training.
- Develop and conduct training programs for all employees, including periodic refreshers.
- Design and implement a training-testing program to evaluate employee understanding and application of safety protocols.
- Develop and maintain an action plan for serious and imminent dangers.
- Ensure all employees are trained to respond effectively to emergencies.
- Maintain records of high-risk areas and activities as required by regulations.
- Establish safety signage and ensure proper placement according to regulatory standards.
- Maintain records of professions requiring authorization and additional medical exams.
- Coordinate with occupational medicine to monitor worker health and fitness for duty.
- Oversee the maintenance and inspection of safety systems, including alarms, ventilation, and protective equipment.
- Ensure periodic checks and testing of work equipment are performed by qualified personnel.
- Participate in the investigation of workplace incidents.
- Prepare and maintain reports on work-related accidents and incidents.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and directives from labor inspectors.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other employers sharing the same workplace.
- Monitor and update safety plans, including warning, protection, and evacuation plans.
- Propose incentives and sanctions based on compliance with safety obligations.
- Undertake specific activities to enhance workplace safety and health, including those related to explosive atmospheres and other specialized risks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, or any university degree if the high school diploma meets Romanian health and safety regulations (acceptable high school diplomas must include technical studies such as industrial safety or related fields).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in health and safety roles.
- In-depth knowledge of local and national safety regulations and standards.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to conduct field inspections in various work environments.
- Capability to respond to emergencies and provide hands-on assistance as needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently.
