Campbell Wilson, a Scoot vezérigazgatója

Jövő tavasszal, azaz 2012 áprilisában tervezi indítani új, hosszú távú járatokat kínáló low-cost légitársaságát a Singapore Airlines. A Scoot névre keresztelt légitársaság szélestörzsű Boeing 777-200 típusú repülőgépekkel fogja üzemeltetni járatait. Először négy „triplahetes”, majd a későbbiek során 2016-ig bezárólag további 14 B777-est terveznek forgalomba állítani. Az eddig napvilágot látott információk szerint a társaság repülőgépei kb. 400 férőhelyes székezéssel lesznek szerelve – derült ki a szingapúri The Straits Times beszámolójából.

A Flightglobal frissen birtokába jutott információk szerint a Scoot Airlines első négy repülőgépe Boeing 777-200 típusú, míg a további gépek között már megnövelt hatótávolságú 200ER változatok is lesznek a hosszú távú járatok minél szélesebb körű teljesíthetősége érdekében.
A repülőgépek fedélzeti kialakítását illetően két osztályos elrendezést tervez a légitársaság kb. 32-40 darab business komfortú üléssel és kb. 370 darab hagyományos, turista osztálynak megfelelő ülés-kialakítással.

SIA long-haul budget carrier to start next April
By Karamjit Kaur, Aviation Correspondent

Singapore Airlines’ new low-cost, long-haul carrier is slated to take off in April next year with one Boeing 777-200 and expand to four planes in the first three months.

The longer-term plan is for Scoot Airlines, as the new entity could be called, to operate 14 of the twin-aisle planes by the middle of 2016, The Straits Times has learnt.

Regional carrier SilkAir, another SIA subsidiary, has a fleet of 18 aircraft.

The new airline, a critical part of SIA’s strategy to deal with intensifying competition from rival carriers, is expected to fit each of its B-777 with about 400 seats.

A Scoot Airlines 2011. november 1-jei közleménye:

Clearly not your usual airline name… and the company it identifies won’t be your usual airline.

“We chose the name ‘Scoot’ for many reasons, not least because it‘s different. Rather than the tried and tired “airlines” this, “airways” that or “air” yawn, it’s short, sharp and snappy. It stands out. It’s geographically independent, and can be a verb or a noun. Besides difference, it conveys spontaneity, movement, informality and a touch of quirkiness—all attributes we intend this Company to be known for,” said Scoot CEO Campbell Wilson.

A Boeing 777-200-as típus hatótávolsága 9700km, míg a megnövelt hatótávolságú 200ER változaté 14305km a gyári adatok szerint.

“These attributes will be personified in a unique spirit that encapsulates our values and style, and that should be apparent to guests whenever they interact with us. An airline with a different attitude. People with a different attitude. Scootitude.”

Starting in mid-2012 with a fleet of four B777-200 aircraft purchased from parent company, Singapore Airlines (SIA), Scoot will offer no-frills service on medium to long haul routes to and from Singapore. It is managed and run independently from SIA, and already operates from separate offices.

Adhering to the low-frills spirit that has proven so popular in short haul arenas in Asia and around the world, Scoot will offer great value airfares up to 40% less than legacy carriers. Guests will be empowered to customize their travel to suit their personal requirements, partaking of only those elements they want and not subsidizing the choices of others. Meals, preferred seats and baggage, amongst many other items, will all be available for selection.

Scoot, which will operate from Changi Airport Terminal 2, will offer two cabins. Specific seats, cabin features and offerings are currently being evaluated.

The Airline’s first-year destinations will include Australasia, China and others – some routes being completely new, others new to no-frills airline operations. The specific cities will be progressively announced over the coming months as negotiations with airports and tourism bodies progress. Flights will open for booking in the early part of 2012.

Thereafter, as the fleet expands and longer-range aircraft are inducted, Scoot’s geographic footprint will steadily grow to encompass India, Europe and other markets at a later stage such as Africa and the Middle East.

The Airline is working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore for its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), and is proceeding on track for award around the end of the first quarter of 2012. Engineering retrofit and certification of aircraft is scheduled for April-June, and the first commercial flights are targeted for the middle of the year. Recruitment is well under way for administrative staff and pilots, and will commence in earnest for cabin crew in early 2012 with a public campaign.

“The team building Scoot is passionate about this new airline, what it stands for and how it can change the way people travel long distance,” said Wilson. “We’re equally passionate about incorporating Scootitude into all that we do. It promises to be a fun and exciting ride.”
