Az Atlas Air megkapta a szükséges engedélyeket ahhoz, hogy az USA Védelmi Minisztériuma részére immár utasszállítási feladatokat is elláthasson a tavalyi évben beszerzett Boeing 767-300ER repülőgépeivel. A kéthajtóműves 767-es a második fő típus az Atlas Air flottájában, az első sorban cargo Boeing 747-es flotta és a két darab utasszállító Boeing 747-es mellett.

Az Atlas Air Boeing 767-esei az amerikai légügyi hivataltól megkapták a 180 perces ETOPS-ot, azaz a kiterjesztett két hajtóművel történő üzemelési engedélyt, amely lehetőséget biztosít a légitársaság számára, hogy az Atlanti Óceán felett a szárazföldtől távolabbi optimális útvonalakon repülhessenek. Az Atlas Air flottájában jelenleg két 767-es teljesít szolgálatot, a harmadik forgalomba állítását 2012 első felében tervezi a cég.
Az Atlas Air Boeing 767-300ER repülőgépei 255 „turista üléses”, egy osztályos konfigurációban, első sorban az amerikai hadsereg számára fognak személyszállítási feladatokat ellátni, de kereskedelmi charter járatokra is kibérelhetők, csakúgy mint a cég két utasszállító Boeing 747-400-as repülőgépe.
Láthatjuk-e majd Ferihegyen?
Korábban az amerikai hadsereg számára katonai személyszállítási feladatokat ellátó és áruszállító járatok rendszeresen hajtottak végre technikai leszállásokat Ferihegyen. Repülőterünk elhelyezkedése miatt, ideális üzemanyag felvételi hely volt az USA-ból a Közel-Keletre irányuló és a közel-keletről Észak-Amerikába tartó járatok részére.
Ennek köszönhető, hogy a kétezres években rendszeres látogatók voltak Ferihegyen – az idő közben megszűnt – American Trans Air L-1011-es, Boeing 757-es, majd rövid ideig a DC-10-es utasszállító gépei, a Ryan International Boeing 767-300-asai és a World Airways DC-10 és MD-11 típusú Cargo gépei, valamint rengeteg ad-hoc járat. Az Atlas Air Boeing 767-eseivel feltehetően többek között ezen, korábban Ferihegyen „technikázó” katonai utasszállító járatok teljesítésére szerződött az amerikai hadsereggel.
Az utóbbi években azonban ez a forgalom sajnos szinte teljesen „kikopott” Ferihegyről, feltehetően a repülőtér magas díjai és politikai okok miatt. Jelenleg a járatok nagy része Lipcse és Hahn valamint egyéb, jellemzően Németországban lévő polgári és katonai repülőtereket használnak tankolásra és személyzet cserére.
Bízzunk benne, hogy változnak az idők és egyszer-egyszer azért láthatjuk majd az Atlas Air Boeing 767-eseit Ferihegyen is, de ha más nem, majd áthaladóban, vagy valamelyik németországi spottertúra alkalmával.

Twin-Jet Aircraft Becomes Second Type in Company’s HistoryWednesday, January 25, 2012 — Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAWW), a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, today announced that its Atlas Air, Inc. unit has received approval from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Commercial Airlift Review Board (CARB) to provide B767-300ER passenger airlift service for the DoD.
The twin-jet 767 becomes the second aircraft type in the company’s history, joining an industry-leading fleet of Boeing 747 freighters and passenger aircraft.
To operate the new aircraft family, Atlas Air has also achieved 180-minute Extended Twin-Engine Operations (ETOPS) certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, allowing for the aircraft’s optimal routing on trans-Atlantic flights. ETOPS approval requires a rigorous review of the company’s operations and successful implementation of additional operational and flight-crew procedures. Flight crews and maintenance teams operating Atlas Air’s 767s are qualified and trained for ETOPS.

The company’s 767-300ER (for Extended Range) aircraft, configured for 255 Economy Class seats, will primarily transport U.S. military personnel domestically and internationally. The aircraft, along with two company-owned passenger 747-400s, are also available for commercial charters, providing customers with flexible seating-capacity alternatives.
Atlas Air expects to place a third 767 into service during the first half of 2012.
Atlas Air initiated B747-400 passenger service for the DoD in May 2011.
With the 767, Atlas Air is the only outsource provider of aircraft and aviation operating services offering the new Boeing 747-8 freighter, 747-400 freighter and passenger versions, and the 767-300ER to its global customers.
